Over the last 18 months we have noticed the increase in staff turnover amongst our sectors' leaders. There are a variety of reasons behind this, which we are keen to uncover. However, for those still in post we recognise the ongoing challenges and difficulties, and indeed loneliness of running an organisation.

To celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March, we’ve shared stories about inspirational women who work and volunteer in our sector this week. Our final spotlight shines brightly on Vicci Livingstone Thompson.

Vicci Livingstone Thompson is the founder and CEO of Inclusion Gloucestershire, but she is also a trustee for Active Impact which aims to bring young people who are non-disabled and disabled together in fun activities and events. She shares her thoughts on being a trustee below and why she’d encourage others to consider being one.

Meet Angela Willis, a trustee with MindsongAfter working as a volunteer for Mindsong, Angela became a trustee for the charity in 2023. She shares her experiences of the role below.

The VCSE sector in Gloucestershire is currently experiencing a high number of leaders and changemakers leaving their roles, while others are experiencing increased pressure. It feels like a time of significant transition, not just within the VCSE sector but within leadership roles throughout the county.

There will be a number of factors affecting this, and the Gloucestershire VCSE Strategic Partnership recognise that change isn’t inherently bad, but identifying common trends will help them to understand the pressure points and target specific support for the sectors' existing leadership.

Despite having a busy role at Gloucestershire VCS Alliance, Emily still finds time to volunteer at her local primary school in Stroud. She is passionate about the VCSE sector and reflects on her experiences below.

Join the Digital Champions Network

Are you working in Gloucestershire to support people with digital skills? You may be working as a volunteer in a community setting to better use computers, phones and tablets, or as an employee in an organisation such as a medical surgery or a support service to increase visitors’ digital skills, confidence and accessibility.
