Wooden people of differing abilities with word 'inclusion' in capital letters

This week, we're celebrating National Inclusion Week 2024 by sharing a range of news updates, links to resources and useful information across our socials, in our News Bulletin and on our website.

We're also delighted to announce that we're now a Disability Confident Committed and Living Wage Employer.

About National Inclusion Week

National Inclusion Week was founded by Inclusive Employers and is a week dedicated to celebrating inclusion and taking action to create inclusive workplaces. This year, it takes place from 23 to 29 September.

The theme for National Inclusion Week this year is ‘Impact Matters’. Inclusive Employers cites this year's campaign as being "a call-to-action to everyone in your organisation, from leaders, to inclusion professionals through to teams and individuals. And that "Impact Matters has a powerful message that centres around understanding, identifying and measuring impact on marginalised groups and taking actions that make for genuine, sustainable change that matters".

Coming up this week

If you're not following us on social media, please pop over to our X and Facebook accounts where we will be sharing some top tips, links to free resources (and more), throughout the week. We've also updated our resources page to include lots of new equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) resources to help your group/organisation on your EDI journey.

New EDI courses launched

As part of our National Inclusion Week celebrations, we've launched three new, fully funded, courses in our EDI series. These are:

  • Inclusion Awareness (23 January 2025)
  • Faith & Cultural Essentials Workshop (12 February 2025)
  • Deaf Awareness Training (11 March 2025)

Gloucestershire VCS Alliance members can book on these courses now (under our early-access member benefit). Bookings open for everyone else on Monday 30 September 2024. You can find out more about these and the other courses in our EDI series on our Book Now page.

Disability Confident Committed

Our team are delighted to announce that we are now a Disability Confident Committed Employer.

As a Disability Confident Committed Employer, we have agreed to the five Disability Confident core commitments, which are centred around:

  1. Ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible
  2. How we communicate and promote vacancies
  3. Ensuring that we offer an interview to disabled people
  4. Anticipating and providing reasonable adjustments as required
  5. Supporting any existing employee who acquires a disability or long term health condition, enabling them to stay in work

Living Wage Employer

We're also delighted to announce that we are now a Living Wage Employer.

The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate based on the cost of living. It is voluntarily paid by over 15,000 UK businesses (including Gloucestershire VCS Alliance) who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs - like the weekly shop, or a surprise trip to the dentist.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to our Business Support Lead, Karen, for all of her work helping us to achieve both the Disability Confident Committed and Living Wage Employer status.
