Are you a leader in a VCSE organisation in Gloucestershire?

Sally Byng has an exciting opportunity for leaders across the county and you are cordially invited to join...

Do you feel overwhelmed on a daily basis by: 

• feeling like you never get it right, whatever right is?

• trying to get through the day, let alone look to the future?

• knowing you can’t please all of the people all of the time, but feeling like you don’t please any of the people, any of the time?

• having to be all things to all people?

If any of this sounds familiar, then this newly forming club may be for you!

The club will be a social support space where we will:

• share the complexities of trying to do the right thing not the nice thing;

• find out to our surprise that we’ve all been there, and we’re all struggling but feel like we have to look like we’re not;

• discover that people we thought just sailed through are challenged just like us; and

• seek a shoulder a cry on.

If any or all of this sounds helpful, and you self-identify as a self-doubter, at least one a week if not multiple times every day, then welcome to the club.

Our first get together will be on 4 March from 5pm to 7pm.  I am hosting it (in my personal capacity, not from my employed role at Barnwood Trust, that’s why I’m using my personal email address below), and we’ll be getting together in the Community Room at Gloucester Services (southbound) thanks to the Gloucestershire Gateway Trust.   

We’ll start by nourishing ourselves with good food together, also courtesy of Gloucestershire Gateway Trust (thanks so much to them). Then we’ll spend an hour or so working out how we’d like to meet on a regular basis.  If you can only drop-in for half an hour, or can stay for the full two hours, you are equally welcome – we want to support and sustain you.

I’m thinking we’ll meet once a month – but where, when and how, that’s up to the people who come to work out with me.

Please feel free to pass this invitation on to anyone who you think self-identifies as self-doubting.  But do also encourage them to email me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to let me know they are coming or would like to come even if they can’t make 4 March. I’d hate to miss keeping in touch with anyone.  

It’s not an exclusive club – it’s for every self-identifying self-doubter. I very much hope, for your sake, that this club isn’t for you!  But if it is – come and join me. I’d have hoped that after 30+ years of leadership I wouldn’t have felt I needed to join it or set it up.  But there.  I do.  If no one joins me I’ll take it as a very positive sign!
