Nicole Beebee

To celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March, we’re sharing stories about inspirational women who work and volunteer in our sector this week.

Meet Nicole Beebee, a board member and trustee of Paul’s Place, a charity which supports physically disabled adults to live life to the full.

Nicole first joined the board of Paul’s Place in 2021. She takes up her journey below, highlighting her work as a trustee including what she enjoys most about it.

“Coming from a background in charity fundraising and organisation management, I am passionate about the VCSE sector and giving back to the community. I combine my role on the board with my paid role as Gloucestershire Community Fundraising Executive for Midlands Air Ambulance and another voluntary role as a parish councillor.

I found out about the amazing work Paul’s Place does in helping to enhance disabled people’s lives when a friend’s son started attending their facility".

“Fast forward four years and I can honestly say it’s been brilliant”.

“After googling to find out more I saw they had an advert asking for trustees to join the board and were looking for one with fundraising experience.

I was keen to find out more. Would it be lots of work? How much time would I have to give them and what would be involved? After an informal chat with the CEO, I decided it would be something I’d really like to do, so I filled out the application form and met with the Chair of Trustees.

Fast forward four years and I can honestly say it’s been brilliant. It’s helped me develop my skills and learn more about charity management, and my contacts have been useful in helping attract funding for the charity.

The board meets quarterly and we have regular email updates. I help at fundraising events as often as I can. I took part in Jail & Bail for the charity last year which was lots of fun and raised lots of money. A few times a year, I meet with the fundraising manager to talk strategy. Not a huge commitment, but one that makes a difference.

I keep my trustee knowledge up to date by attending the fantastic courses run by the Gloucestershire VCS Alliance and there are a wealth of online resources available.”
