Angela Willis

To celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March, we’re sharing stories about inspirational women who work and volunteer in our sector this week.

Meet Angela Willis, a trustee with MindsongAfter working as a volunteer for Mindsong, Angela became a trustee for the charity in 2023. She shares her experiences of the role below.

“Mindsong is a wonderful Gloucestershire charity working across care homes, private homes and in the community, to support people living with dementia (and other neurological conditions). We use music therapy, tailored singing groups (and more!) to enable improved communication and wellbeing.

I’m passionate about supporting people living with dementia, had an understanding of the power of music and knew something of the incredible work Mindsong undertakes.

I started out volunteering with them on a practical level. I got to know more about all aspects of Mindsong’s work and witnessed the massive difference that the charity makes to individuals, their carers and family members".

“I now feel privileged to be part of this innovative organisation”

“It was a natural progression for me to consider becoming a trustee as I wanted to contribute more and be part of Mindsong’s continued development. Having never been a trustee before, I researched the role and responsibilities, considered the time needed and weighed up how my skills, experiences and enthusiasm might be useful in support of high standards of governance and continuous improvement.

I now feel privileged to be part of this innovative organisation, undertaking a trustee role which enables me to:

  • keep learning
  • make a difference
  • help shape future direction
  • feel valued
  • foster board-level team working
  • support a brilliant female staff team and CEO.

There’s lots of training, support and guidance available both in Gloucestershire and nationally. As a trustee, we have the opportunity to contribute to improving the effectiveness of a charity and to use our different skills, experiences and backgrounds.

I would definitely encourage other women to consider becoming a trustee.”
