Gloucestershire VCSE and the Integrated Care System

The 16th December 2021 saw Gloucestershire VCSE organisations come together as a sector to discuss and co-design an engagement model for how the sector will work with the new ICS.

The VCS Alliance worked with colleagues at NAVCA and NHS England to create a workshop looking at why and how the VCSE wants to work with newly formed Integrated Care System (ICS).

The ICS will be a fully formed structure in April 2022 and the local VCSE is a key part of its development, strategic ambitions and delivery of care services. Integrated care systems are geographically based partnerships that bring together providers and commissioners of NHS services with local authorities and other local partners to plan, co-ordinate and commission health and care services. They are part of a fundamental shift in the way the health and care system is organised – away from competition and organisational autonomy and towards collaboration, with health and care organisations working together to integrate services and improve population health.

Therefore, we wanted to bring the sector together to have the conversation about coproducing an engagement strategic and to think about why and how the sector is represented at a systems level.
