About the Role

The Gloucestershire VCS Alliance are creating an online, county-wide volunteering platform to organise and coordinate offers of help from individuals in the community. Ultimately, we want Gloucestershire to be the best county in which to volunteer and for organisations to provide high quality experiences to volunteers; this online platform will be a one of the key foundation stones of this ambition and act as the central hub for volunteer brokerage across the county. Any organisation – be they public, private or VCSE sector – seeking volunteers will be able to use this platform.

To do this effectively we require someone to coordinate, promote and manage this online platform for maximum impact. This is a key role in the county and will support the implementation and continuation of this project to harness the amazing skill of volunteers in our county to best effect.

Any organisation in Gloucestershire seeking volunteers (public sector, VCSE sector, private sector), potential and existing volunteers, online platform software provider, local volunteering infrastructure organisations

LOCATION

Home-based, with some in-person team meetings.  There will be a need to travel across the county as part of the promotional and training elements of this role: therefore, access to own transport would be ideal

SALARY SCALE

£33,000 per annum (pro-rata)

CONTRACT TYPE

Initially 3-year contract

WORKING HOURS

30 hours per week (across 4 or 5 days – negotiable). 

Occasionally, evening and/or weekend meeting attendance may be required

 

Key Deliverables

Communications and Promotion

·       Once there is a critical mass of organisations posting opportunities, create and lead an awareness raising campaign to promote the platform to all organisations that use volunteers and support them to register, create their profile, and ensure they are able to use the platform effectively;

·       Raise awareness to various identified demographics of potential volunteers not currently involved in volunteering and support methods to target these under-represented groups;

·       Demonstrate the platform to a range of stakeholders, specifically including young people, Gloucestershire University, VCSE organisations, and health and care providers to showcase the platform capabilities and encourage its usage, ensuring the set Key Performance Indicators are met;

·       Establish channels and create appropriate promotional content for a variety of social and new media platforms;

·       Ongoing promotion – continue to promote newly published volunteering opportunities through contact groups/networks and social media channels;

·       Manage a small team of volunteers who will help by adding capacity in the task of promoting the platform to potential users;

Technology Support

·       Work with delivery and software partners to establish the new online platform as the central hub for volunteering in the county;

·       In partnership with the platform software provider, continually improve website functionality and update content to ensure a dynamic, relevant and future-proofed platform;

·       Provide relevant training through appropriate channels to both organisations and volunteers wishing to use the platform;

·       Support users with any IT issues related to the platform;

·       Lead the maintenance of the volunteering platform as required;

·       Be the key link to software platform provider, e.g. supporting updates and improvements;

Design and Testing

·       Work with VCSE and other stakeholders to ensure the platform meets the requirements of the sector and is an effective mechanism for promoting and onboarding volunteers;

·       Work with selected volunteers and organisations to support the testing of the platform prior to full launch;

Other

·       Quality assure each organisations’ profile;

·       Quality assure each posted opportunity;

·       Act as a central point of expert contact;

·       Be the key link into the local face-to-face brokerage offers in each locality and any specialist/topic-specific brokerage, e.g. health;

·       Feed-back to the Volunteering Brokerage Group improvement proposals and issues to resolve;

·       Any other tasks as required.  

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

SKILLS

Highly IT literate, including experience of updating website content using content management systems

Able to communicate effectively with tact and sensitivity to a wide range of audiences through presentations, written copy and in meetings

Excellent relationship building skills - we are looking for a natural collaborator comfortable working with people at all levels of an organisation

Able to understand complex information, with good analytical skills and a practical approach to problem-solving

Ability to manage parallel tasks, prioritise work and manage time effectively to meet internal and external deadlines

Innovative, resourceful, and pro-active

Attention to detail

Ability to work in multi-partner teams across a wide system

Able to work flexibly, both independently and in teams

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Experience of communicating clearly and effectively through a range of media channels and to different audiences

Experience of establishing and maintaining different social media channels for promotional purposes and how each can be best utilised

A track record of conceiving and implementing systems and services that have achieved demonstrable results

Technical knowledge with experience of managing a website(s) and liaising with a range of partners

Experience and/or a thorough understanding of website analytics and able to report and evaluate success clearly

Desirable: experience of managing a team of volunteers/similar

Desirable: experience of designing and leading training

Desirable: knowledge of running promotional campaigns
